The water main and looping project for Shabbona Road begins on 4/22/2024.

Due to multiple water main breaks along Shabbona Road, especially over the past ten years, and the fact that the water mains along South Shabbona Road have reached end of useful life and/or require upgrades, the Village of Shabbona plans to replace approximately 1,200 feet of existing 6” and 4” water main with 8” water main along South Shabbona Road, 320’ of 4” water main with 8” water main on Shabbona Road between Comanche Avenue and Cherokee Street, and 480’ of 4” water main with 8” water main on Shabbona Road north of Navaho Avenue.  A 700’ water main loop connection from Sequoya Street east along Comanche Avenue and along Shabbona Road north of Comanche Avenue for 480’.  Existing fire hydrants will also be replaced during this project.

These water main improvements will allow the Village of Shabbona to improve water and fire flow as well as maintain compliance with current regulations.  The potential for low water pressures on the north and south sides of the village exists within the system and this project aims to ensure the village remedies these issues and continues to supply quality water to its residents.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) has approved the project plans and the village has received a low interest IEPA loan for this project.
